9 Red Flags When Hiring a Roofing Marketing Agency

Many roofers have the same story: a monthly fee, a nice report, and an empty calendar. These nine signs help you avoid a repeat.

1. A long contract before any results

Six or twelve months locked in means the agency gets paid whether it works or not. Ask for month to month, or a short first term.

2. "Guaranteed" jobs or revenue

Nobody controls your close rate or the weather. A guarantee of sold jobs is a sales line. A guarantee of delivered appointments, with clear rules, is different and can be real.

3. Reports full of clicks and impressions

Clicks do not pay crews. Ask for three numbers: inspections booked, inspections held, cost per inspection.

4. They own your accounts

Your ad account, your website and your Google Business Profile should be in your name. If you leave, you keep them.

5. No roofing experience

Roofing has its own rules: storms, insurance, seasons. Ask which roofing companies they work with now.

6. They sell the same area to your competitors

Ask how many roofers they serve in your city. If the answer is "as many as will pay", you are bidding against their other clients.

7. Leads go to a form nobody watches

Ask what happens in the first five minutes after a homeowner responds. If the answer is "we email it to you", the hardest part is still yours.

8. Testimonials you cannot check

Ask to speak with a current client. A good agency says yes.

9. Pressure to sign today

A real limit, such as a cap on roofers per area, is fair. A countdown clock on a sales call is not.

Good questions to ask

  • What exactly am I paying for?
  • Who pays for the ad spend?
  • What counts as a qualified lead or appointment?
  • How do I cancel, and how much notice?
  • What happens if a month goes badly?

More on this in questions to ask before buying roofing appointments.

Questions roofers ask

Is a retainer always bad?

No. A good agency on a fair retainer can be worth it. The risk is paying for effort with no link to results.

What is a fair cancellation term?

Thirty days or less is reasonable.

How is NorthLine different?

No retainer and no ad spend. You pay only when an inspection is booked, you can cancel with 7 days' notice, and we take at most 3 roofers per area. Check your area.

Ready to fill the calendar?

We build and fund the campaigns and put qualified appointments on your calendar — $450 per booked appointment.
