How to Reduce No-Shows for Roof Inspections
You drive 30 minutes and nobody is home. It happens to every roofer. It does not have to happen often.
How common is it?
SchedulingKit's 2026 benchmarks put home-services no-show rates at about 12–18% (SchedulingKit). If yours is higher, the booking process is the likely cause.
Seven steps that help
- 1Book it soon. An inspection in two days holds better than one in ten. Interest fades quickly.
- 2Confirm in writing right away. A text with the date, time, address and the rep's name.
- 3Send two reminders. One about 24 hours before and one a few hours before. This is the most commonly recommended pattern.
- 4Ask for a reply. "Reply YES to confirm." A person who answers is far more likely to be home.
- 5Send the rep's photo and name. People open the door to someone they expect.
- 6Text when you are on the way. "Mike is 15 minutes away."
- 7Make rescheduling easy. A homeowner who can move the time will tell you. One who cannot will hide.
What to do when it still happens
- Call from the driveway. They may be in the back yard.
- Take a photo of the house with a time stamp. If you paid for the appointment, you may need it for a credit.
- Text a friendly rebooking offer the same day. Do not scold.
Check your own side
No-shows go both ways. A rep who arrives late or cancels teaches the homeowner that the time was not serious. Protect the slot on your side too.
Measure it
Show rate = inspections held ÷ inspections booked. Track it by source and by rep. A low show rate from one source points to weak qualifying. A low show rate for one rep points to something else.
Questions roofers ask
Should I charge a no-show fee?
For a free inspection, no. It scares off good customers.
Are morning slots better?
Many roofers find early slots hold better because the day has not gone wrong yet. Test it in your market.
How does NorthLine handle no-shows?
We confirm that the homeowner will be home before we book. If they still do not show, you get a credit toward the next inspection, and reschedules are free. See how it works.
